Innkeepers: Mary and John Welty

Come visit our ranch, your home away from home. A stay with us is a stay in peace and quiet: A writer's paradise, an artist's dream, a serene get-away from the city. No outside lights are left on at night, and the star gazing is magnificent.

The Guest House is furnished with the original brass bed that arrived here by covered wagon many years ago. Antiques and other furniture decorate the house, giving it a homelike and very comfortable effect. Original artwork adorns the walls of both houses. Our place is plainly decorated and is simple and comfortable, not "fru-fru" feeling.

On the front porch of the Guest House, one can enjoy sitting on the old swing, soaking up the heat from the morning sun. A great place to read a book or even write one!

Feather ticks are stored in the closet and can be used by our guests for extra warmth.

Fresh fruit and baked goods are brought up each afternoon for the following morning's breakfast. The refrigerators are stocked with basic breakfast necessities: milk, eggs, margarine, and bread. Changes to the food items are made on the reservation sheet.

In addition, coffee and tea are available for brewing in our automatic coffee pots and tea kettles, a Weber BBQ grill can be used for your eating pleasures, and the Guest House has a wood-burning fireplace for that cozy atmosphere in the evening.

We are approximately 30 minutes from the Chapel Hills Mall which is on the north end of Colorado Springs. In addition, the Inn is a mere 15 miles from the northern gate of the Air Force Academy. A Safeway store is located 14 miles south of the ranch and a convenience store is nine miles north of the ranch.

We have a historic book that sells in the gallery for $15.00. It shows the history of our area and offers enough information to keep you busy for hours.

Castle Rock offers its extensive outlet stores for strolling and shopping. It is located just 45 minutes from the ranch.

Brochures are also available that offer additional ideas for area activities.

Pamper yourself on our ranch in the privacy of our 1930's two-bedroom Guest House or our cozy Bunkhouse. Each one is equipped with kitchen, bathroom/shower facilities and air-conditioning.

Our Cozy Bunkhouse
Look out over the farm yard and barns to the fields and bluff pasture. Our large picnic site is here, with tables and a 1/2 barrel grill. Hiking in the bluff pasture is permitted. A dirt road leads to the end of the bluff and is an endurance challenge for the average person. The view at the top is magnificent.

The history of our ranch comes from three generations past: The property here today lies along the Jimmy Camp Trail, a part of the Santa Fe Trail. As rich as the history of the ranch is the extent of our wildlife: elk graze occasionally on our fields and coyotes sing on some nights. The hooting of owls can be heard after dark, and the skies of our dark nights are spectacular.

Our own art gallery resides on the ranch for your viewing pleasure. The art work of Mary J. Welty is housed there along with photo cards of some of the work and silk screened shirts of specially selected works of art. Mary received 5th place in the Federal Duck Stamp show in the fall of 1999 for the 2000 stamp competition with her entry of a mottled duck hen.

Currently the gallery houses several hundred original paintings in a multi-media and styles.
